Saksham's Sustainable Living Initiatives
At Saksham we impart knowledge on sustainable living and shun the use of plastic bags by conducting various workshops on Paper-bag and Cloth-bag making.
Paper-Bag Making
During the year of 2016-17 we taught several women the art of making paper bags. These include both simple bags for regular use and designer bags with high-quality paper. We have also showcased these bags to a corporation on their behalf. During the first batch of Project Saksham Tejaswini, we had once a week sessions on paper and cloth bag making. Staff from Paryavaran Dakshata Mannch helped these 22 women learn the art.
Cloth-Bag making in bulk
We have brought in an agency that buys cloth bags in bulk from our tailoring students and Saksham Tejaswini participants. These ladies get the ready-cut cloth and thread from the agency and the payment go directly into their bank account on completion on orders.this is a great opportunity for the women as they only have to focus on making the bags, and not on purchasing the material or marketing the product.
